It's hard to believe but in about 23 days I will be flying on two different planes with Brittani to Costa Rica. We will land in San Jose where we will drive to our new home for the following eight weeks! I am so excited to get to the warmer weather and to get to know more about the country of Costa Rica from our host family. Mami and Papi have expressed their excitement for our visit as well! In January before our departure, Brittani and I have plans to meet with a relative of Mami and Papi. We plan to have lunch and look forward to making contact with a family member of our new family!
I have begun to pack and prepare all of my materials for the trip as well which has made me both nervous and very excited for this eight week student teaching experience in a different school setting. Costa Rican schools have a very high reading rate throughout their elementary school leveled students. I look forward to discovering what it is that makes their reading education different than the reading education found in American classrooms.
I will be using this last week of break to prepare my lesson plans and my materials for the classroom in Costa Rica. I will be working with 5 year olds. The entire curriculum will be taught in Spanish. I am really thrilled that I will have an opportunity like this to improve my fluency within a classroom environment. I also plan to connect both of my student teaching experiences together, because I am dually certified I will be student teaching in both a 5 year old classroom in Costa Rica and then in a 5th grade classroom. I am hoping to either use Skype or letters, maybe both as a form of communication between the two classrooms! I think it would be a great experience for both me and the students!
On the fourth of January I will begin my three week long J-Term class. Intercultural Communication, my final general studies course. I will take the final a day early in order to make my flight at the airport the next morning.
The next few months are going to be the largest stepping stone to conquer on my path towards becoming an early childhood educator!! :)
Bring it on 2016, until next time!
Hasta luego!
