Friday, January 22:
Our day began bright and early at 2:30AM! Brittani and I both had difficulties with our original tickets and so although we were at the airport at a reasonable time we ended up running to security in order to board our plane on time! We got on the plane and then were stuck on the runway for another forty minutes waiting to get fuel from a truck that wasn't broken. And before we knew it we were off the ground and flying toward Houston, Texas. |
Once at the airport in Houston, we had a short layover but enough time to get some coffee and breakfast! We were both super excited but very nervous to be leaving the country. This was the day that we had waited for, for so long and we couldn't believe the moment had finally arrived. We snapped one last picture of us in the United States. |
Costa Rica!
Our plane was early and so the pilot flew us in circles right near the cost for about 20 minutes, the views from the plane were spectacular! We landed and made it through customs with no problem. We found almost all of our luggage but one of mine had been left behind in Houston. It took us a bit longer than planned but Papi and Darren were waiting patiently for us with a large sign welcoming us to Costa Rica. We then had about a two hour car ride to our home and when we arrived Mami was cooking dinner for us.
Our first dinner! Chicken, rice, cucumbers/tomatoes, beans, and a potato native to Costa Rica.
Saturday, January 23:
Brittani and I both slept for almost 12 hours after our long day of travel. Mami made us a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit, a cooked green plant (native to Costa Rica), the best coffee, and eggs. Afterwards Brittani and I took a short walk throughout the city to see where we will be living for the next eight weeks. When we returned Papi had something for us to try... |
Coconut Water & Fresh Coconut!
Papi, Inés, and Darren went to get a bunch of coconuts from trees in the area early in the morning while Brittani and I were still sleeping. This was the first time either of us had the opportunity to try coconut water straight from the coconut itself! It was delicious and the coconut was even better fresh!
I am loving all of the plants that are surrounding me here! There are some that are very similar to what is in the United States, but there are others that are absolutely fascinating. I am in love with the nature and the warm weather. It was 82 today, it rained for a bit this morning and then again this evening. It was nice enough during the afternoon for Papi to give us an official tour of Guácimo. We ate pizza for lunch and Mami took us to a cute little restaurant for some smoothies this evening.
I am so grateful for this opportunity and experience of a lifetime, it's only day two and I have already learned so much about the culture and the way of life here, I can't imagine how much I will know by the end of this eight weeks!
Until my next post! Hasta luego!
