Monday, February 29 - Friday, March 4:
Speaking a full day in English and teaching in English has become a constant worry for me! Why, you may ask!? Spanish is everywhere and working in two classrooms, with two co-ops and 32 total students, I have my head full of Spanish words, sayings, greetings... Often I find myself thinking in Spanish and then it takes me longer to recall the English word/phrase. I guess we shall see what takes place when I return to teach in the US in a few short weeks to teach in a fifth grade classroom!
Above is a typical bicycle that parents will drive to school with all of their children, in the basket, on the wooden seat, sometimes on the back bumper! Not to say that the bicycle is the only thing that families pile on to! The other famously seen mode of transportation are the motorbikes that appear to be the family cars! When living in the Costa Rican climate, I completely understand.

In Kínder 1:
We have been working on directionality and opposites in the majority of our classroom activities. Knowing left hands from right hands, inside, outside, up, down, and noise versus silence have been a few of the main concepts that have been taught and practiced. We also used some class time to review and relearn the shapes, colors, and the numbers 1-15 in English.
In the coming weeks we will begin studying the human body and then studying family trees and the varieties of family structures.
In Kínder 2:
The students in Kínder 2 are studying the parts of the human body and focusing in on the digestive system more towards the end of the week. All as a tie in to the Month of Living Healthy that we celebrated throughout the month of February which came to a close this Monday. One student was traced on large paper to then label the body as a class.
We will continue studying the body and visiting the green house in the coming week. Our lettuce will be ready for harvesting!

Puerto Viejo One Last Time
On Saturday morning, Brittani and I braved the public buses of Costa Rica to bring us safely to Puerto Viejo one last time during our short lived life in Costa Rica. Traveling was not our luck here in Costa Rica, because of this we chose it was better to return to a place we had been than to find ourselves lost or stuck on buses for too long. Although we had to be awake at 5 AM, we had great buses, and welcomed our day on the cost of the South Carribean Sea with coffee, pastries, and hammocks.
Sunday, March 6:
After a long day of being on bus after bus I gladly made some fresh Costa Rican coffee. Then I spent the day working on lesson plans in the back yard as my clothes dried on the line. Papi made us corn on the cob and I drank a fresh coconut and then ate the inside!
There are some things about this lifestyle that I will for surely miss. Glad I am spending my last weekends enjoying them.
